Who Is She?
Savannah was born and raised in Seattle, WA, and is currently based between Seattle and Chicago, IL. She’s a graduate of DePaul University with a degree in Communication and Media. With a yielding passion for visual media production and a range of artistic mediums, at her core, she is a storyteller. As a writer, words give her the flexibility to encapsulate the essence and nuances of a singular or range of voices within a story. Through forms such as poetry or essays, she’s given the space to use rhythm, rhyme, and a play on words to emphasize the details and communicate the emotion of one’s experience. From a journalistic perspective, elements such as those are transferable in many forms of creative storytelling, such as documentaries, essays, and more.
While writing has been her primary practice, her medium of interest reaches beyond literature and into the discipline of multimedia, the marrying of written and visual communication. In pursuing her own multimedia project, she’s found that practices such as photography and videography give me room to re-imagine the stories she intends to tell, providing an opportunity for extended accessibility, a greater reach, and possibility of understanding between the audience and storyteller.
Savannah recognizes that the written language can be limiting and, in many instances, exclusive, resulting in voices unheard and stories untold. Whether we recount our own experiences or the experiences of others, a chance to share those perspectives is a chance for not one but many people to see and be seen. Savannah is inspired by art and media and the power each expressive medium has to cultivate communities and tell shared stories.
As Savannah continues to work towards her career, she fosters new ideas and cultivates spaces where the beauty of her community and the various communities she inhibits, such as Chicago, are highlighted. She aims to amplify the intersectionality between art, media, and community, showcasing their transformative impact.
Outside of what’s been described, you’ll find Savannah playing her guitar, at a concert, writing songs and poetry, cooking, trying new restaurants, or hanging with those she loves most.
